The Power play Politics of Allegiance
Every day we keep imagining that one day we will wake up and boom! There’s no politics to mind perhaps just slayqueens and Nyakundi and Paybills. Speaking of Nyakundi is Cyprian; boy he wakes up hating on ‘slayqueens’. He feels this obsession of power around him. They say absolute Power corrupts the mind absolutely. For he moves with speed to swear himself in as the self acclaimed #boychild President East West, North and South of the Republic of Kenya. Boy child believes in his ’cause’. The feel good factor extended by Kenyans causes him to move with lightening speed to shoot out a Paybill Mchanga (crowd funding) account in support of the boy child. Yes in their short lived excitement Kenyans had expressed the false hope that yes they would contribute towards that ‘noble’ cause. No sooner had the account gone live than the same content consumers said no to the idea. And moving with the same speed the now defacant boychild president elect, withdrew that idea and apologized. But that’s some sweet gossip for another day girls.
Today however and if you don’t mind, let’s go back to our sorry political situation that’s it’s just refused to go and perhaps talk from behind the scenes. I know yourself and me bother not to count. All we know is that it’s taken overly long. But on his ‘swearing in’ president Kenyatta said it’s been 128 days doing politics and as expected he asked that we accept and move on. You would expect him and his political class Legion to keep a count because well, for them politics is work. It’s a way of a life to them in as much as yourself and I consider it unnecessary noise (ps: nothing to do with Naz) He might be correct in saying we have to move on as half the country of quarter perhaps might concur but then again he might be wrong just as the other half or more might continuously feel. But that’s none of our business to decipher.
Behind the scenes yes, power is as complex as those chemistry Molecular calculations of high school days. Let’s start here. France colonized The UK. The UK colonized Kenya before granting her self rule dating 54 years back. That rings a bell? No?
As a colony, France might feel like it owns the UK. Just as the same UK having colonized Kenya might feel like it owns it absolutely. Please note that’s my way of looking at it. And please note Power and by virtue of being blood sisters politics has become a central resource allocation factor. To delve further into the proponents of resource allocation and if you have some time, you might consider studying The Resource allocation Theory by Hablo.
In between, a less known Turkana country bumps on oil beds deep it’s dark skin. Come on, who talks about Turkana on a good day save for that relevancy seeking Ben Carson who borrowing from that I might be Irish basketball player said he might be Turkana just days before the US voted in 2016. So Turkana becomes the talk of town and every one wants to wore that girl and see if they can deep in her oil. Kenya all of a sudden becomes a darling of global attention because well, she got oil and as that guy of Standard Oil (John De Rockefeller) said in ‘Men Who Built America documentary, “the world runs on oil.” The government tenders for drillers and a UK firm; Tullow oil is awarded the drilling contract. It’s business as usual on the surface but underground power play games have taken the throne.
Tullow does there thing and in between there arises need to get someone else to help with internal piping for the drilled oil. First and before we move further, currently we have the ministry of mining, ministry of Energy, ministry of Environment and then we have oil. One wonders where exactly does oil belong here amongst the three government ministries? Again through bidding that pipping tender is awarded to a French based firm. The UK through Tullow counters that move with a feasibility study that otherwise stated that the Turkana oil levels are so low and do not necessarily warranty internal pipping infrastructure. Everyone ignores that part.
See everywhere everyone asks “what’s in it for me?” Fast forward 2017 and narrowing down to August Eighth Kenya votes on a first ever KIEMS (Kenya Intergrated Elections Management System) machines supplied and wholly manned by a French firm; Sapphire and Morpho. FYI: a senior IEBC IT officer; Musando dies mysteriously about a weekend to elections day. We vote and move on with only a new celebrity in town; GitheriMan to talk about. Results are out and the opposition team challenges them in supreme court culminating in presidential election annulment which was well, historical.
Kenya prepares to vote again for the president. In between the UK through its Chattan Institute invites the opposition chief; the former Prime Raila Odinga (who occasionally insists he’s still the PM since no one is yet to come after his reign) to give a public lecture on democracy in Africa spotlighting the Kenya electioneering. Tongues wage. He talks in that far land and comes back. Attention shifts to IEBC. The opposition morphs into a choir band singing the songs of political reforms. The government’s Jubilee party insists sijui “wembe ni ule ule” and some lady from the coast blasts them “wembe mtumieni kunyoa kwapa” (Coast people though.) The election mood super Charges. Maraga becomes word in town. The repeat election date is set and reset and reset again. Opposition releases it’s second album dubbed “No elections. No reforms” It sells better that that ‘NASA Tibiim’ tune but government refuses to buy it. Some days before the set date for repeat presidential election, the opposition squad withdraws from elections calling them coronations. Slay Queens get it all wrong and start posting sijui “withdraw method caused them teen pregnancy blah”
In Between, the US having all along watched from the sides calls the PM; Raila Amollo Odinga to address the US house. Everyone suggests Trump is finally taking sides. It gets the president eyes red. He talks tougher on TV from statehouse and insists that elections are on course and it’s every Kenyan constitutional right to participate or not to participate willingly without intimidation. Raila stays away in the US. Low key Elections happen and no one including the IEBC can’t get the turn out correctly. At one point the president goes in a tie neck to neck with the voter turn out then sapases it. The world laughs it’s ribs bitter. Ruto; the Deputy president aka Hustler goes to CNN to explain. He fumbles. That CNN girl deletes the interview in the wee morning hours then apologizes. Another reason for the world to laugh. It doesn’t. I thought it was still healing it’s ribs from soarnes.
In between the Nairobi business Community continue to roam the despotic ghost city. Deep in slums scores lose lives. Chaps in kisumu and Homabay Counties prepare meals in the middle of barricaded roads. A president elect is announced garnering a 98% out of the about 30% turnout following a 70% no show up. The NASA brigade morphs into a National Resistance Movement. Some brands are overwhelmed by the #Resist Narrative. Peace ambassadors all of a sudden re_surface asking us to move on. Here we are between moving on and to where exactly.
Perhaps to further understand the idea of power plays, Read this speech from the prime minister of Israel….. Benjamin Netanyahu, with all Glory to God.
Mr. Nethanyahu said:
Only 70 years ago! The Jews were taken to the slaughter like sheep.
60 years ago! We had no country. No Army.
Seven Arab countries declared war on our small Jewish state, just a few hours after its creation!
We were only 650 Jews, against the rest of the Arab world! NO IDF (Israel Defense Army).
No powerful Air Force, only brave people with nowhere to go.
Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia all attacked us at the same time.
The country that the United Nations gave us was 65 % desert. The country was out of nowhere!
35 years ago! We fought the three most powerful armies in the middle east, and we swept them… yes… in six days.
We fought against various coalitions of Arab countries, which had the modern armies and many Soviet weapons, and we had always beaten them!
Today we have:
*A powerful air force*
*A State-of-the-Art economy which exports millions of dollars*
*Intel – Microsoft – IBM develops products at home*
*Our doctors receive awards for medical research*
We make the desert bloom, and sell oranges, flowers and vegetables all over the world.
Israel has sent its own satellites into space!
Three satellites at the same time!
We are proud to be at the same rank as: The United States, which has 250 million inhabitants,
Russia, which has 200 million inhabitants
China, which has 1.3 billion inhabitants
Europe – France, Great Britain, Germany – with 350 million inhabitants..
The only countries in the world to send objects into space! Israel is now part of the family of the nuclear powers, with the United States, Russia, China, India, France, and Great Britain.
We have never officially admitted it, (but everyone knows it) and say that only 60 years ago, we were led, ashamed and hopeless, to slaughter!
We have extirpés the smoking ruins of Europe, we have won our wars here with less than nothing. We built our little “Empire” from nothing.
Who’s Hamas to scare me? To terrify me? You make me laugh!
Passover was celebrated; Let’s not forget what this is about.
>We survived Pharaoh.
>We survived the Greeks.
>We survived the Romans.
>We survived the inquisition in Spain.
>We have the pogroms in Russia.
>We survived Hitler.
>We survived the Germans.
>We survived the Holocaust.
>We survived the armies of seven Arab countries.
>We survived Saddam.
>We will continue to survive the enemies present today too.
Think of any time in human history! Think about it, for us, the Jewish people, the situation has never been better! Then let’s face the world.
Let us remember: All nations or cultures who once tried to destroy us, no longer exist today – while we still live!
Alexander of Macedonia?
The Romans? (does anyone still speak Latin these days? )
The Third Reich?
And look at us,
>The Bible Nation.
>The slaves of Egypt.
>We are still here.
And we speak the same language! then, and now! Arabs don’t know yet, but they will learn that there is a God ….as long as we keep our identity, we are forever.
So forgive us for not worrying.
>Not to cry.
>Not to be afraid.
>Things are fine here.
They could certainly get better.
However: Don’t believe the media, they don’t tell you that parties continue to take place, people continue to live, people keep coming out, people continue to see friends.
Yes, our morale is low. So what? Only because we mourn our deaths, while others rejoice in the blood shed. That is why we will win, in the end.
He never sleeps or will ever sleep…. the guardian of Israel…. Yahweh God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Forward this speech to the whole community, and to people around the world. They are part of our strength.
From the above Narrative and further speech by Israel leader, power plays stand out. I might be wrong just as I might hold some water when I say that the UK and France are engaging Kenya in a cold fight over a ‘small resource; oil’ and the US under Trump is watching as we Kenyans think it’s politics as usual.
Campaigns happened. Elections to many ended when the president was sworn in in a not well attended ceremony at Kasarani following the Supreme Court cases dismissal. But the opposition’s NASA or is it NRM still keeps alive with their idea of swearing in their leaders as the people’s president and deputy respectively tomorrow (tentative) in a what has turned out to be controversial. Why because it hangs in between measuring up to Treason and being constitutional as they purport. Tomorrow keeps becoming tomorrow. The same tomorrow would otherwise be a national holiday to commemorate internal self rule but here we are entangled in a power supremacy war. God guide Kenya! 🙏
