A.k.a Fake News
Disclaimer: Propaganda and fake news are two different things but for the sake of this discussion let’s use those words interchangeably. After all we are talking about fake news. I mean propaganda. Read on.
If you go down the street deep lanes of time in history aboard Google in search of what propaganda is or what it might be rather what it’s not or might not be. You will come across a person, sorry, it’s a lady by the name Marylin Munroe and her famous potato sack cloth story. Some top notch fashion designers out to sell to the masses the idea that potatoes sack cloth (pause think about Marikiti. See those dirty mud soaked potato sacks) could be an ideal fashion idea, chose to dress up Marylin Munroe; considered as the beauty definition of the time, in one of a kind potato sack cloth. They went ahead and got the media talking about her over and over and the world stopping to listen. It worked. No. I doubt.
You can not talk about propaganda, rather fake news without mentioning Trump and the 2016 USA presidential election. Trumps entire campaign and eventual win was centrally anchored on propaganda (they prefer to say fake news. They are the west!) But in particular there’s a one little known Mr Trucker (a truck for a name that) That guy Trucker with his forty or so followers on Twitter almost got the Internet cracking at the middle when he got Trump himself retweeting and promoting his tweet. What did he do? Hr went down the streets of downtown Austin, took a pic of packed buses belonging to some tour company under a one CEO; Hughes. He then went ahead probably sat down somewhere in a dusty KFC, fired his data icon ending up at the peripheries of Twitter. Armed complete with his packed buses pics he wrote and I quote “Trump won and Professionals protesters have been brought in buses to demonstrate. That’s very bad!” That caught Trumps ego. The world noticed. Twitter bowed. Such is how some little known man with Truck for a name and just a mere Forty followers on Twitter can compose and fashion fake news and make the world think he got a point to pass around. That must stop!
That sums up how big a threat false news is to the world.
