The whole world cup fever had created a buzz around the globe and the town was high on talks football. It had been something everyone had looked forward to. Here ,it came calling. Businesses became overly creative acting fast to allign Marketing with football. Convenient stores painted football, Radio stations too chanted football as Televisions went live with slides after slides all football.
I had seemingly looked forward with keen eargerness to experiencing the Brasil Version of the game long before it was announced coming shortly after a highly compited English premiership. On the very evenning i fumbled with the analogue Antennae to yield a view on National Broadcasting Television; Channel one the official Tele-partner. It worked awesome.
The openning ceremony as lively as it was fall short of the glory i would award the 2010 Home-soil version. The oppenning game though between the boys in yellow against Croatia was tension packed. Everyone pressed hard. It rekindled the memories of the South African affair against Mexico in 2010.
The derby was still building up with 32 teams set to battle out for the golden glory. My intrest fumbled in between the Germany Machines and the Netherlands but my roots were deeply rooted with my African Brothers….Last time we came closer, this time…
Yet the African scenario was not an intresting one, only a story of too close but too far. Then the USA courtesy of OBAMA became a darling of many and finally The BELGIUMS spotlighting the little known but highly mighty ORIGI was the only African hope but ooops! that was too short lived.
Favourite on my list was the mid-time advert by coke and especially the Clueless girl whose relevance was only proven by Germans in the photo scenario but the die-hards too brought enough life to it.. The easy scoring James Rodrigues too was fanatic and the diving Robben got attached to the Ball mighty well he played with passion. The big names struggled to remain relevant as young talents took the stage high. Robins goal was just Marvelous. It was THE WORLDS CUP, we watched, supported, cheered, Jeered, witnessed, Talked, shared, posted updates and twitted all in love of the Game
What makes it one of the onl memorable World cup is the between the season friendly the mighty Germans and the fumbling wanabe Champions Brasilians; baptised as hosts. I liked in particular the submission by their Coach; Scolari “am sure everyone will remember me for the fact that i lost 7-1 to Germany, but as i took up this job, its a risk i was aware i was running into” as he quit!
That game in particular i bet has a token lessons for entrepreneurs we will need to explore. What was your Experience?
